Due to the actions of a small number of ACORN members, the organization has been getting some bad press lately. Everyone knows that they are around to assist lower to middle class homeowners, and fight for the common man whom can’t always fight for himself. They have fought and will continue to fight for these homeowners. Regardless, for them to continue to clean up their image with the public they will need to rid themselves of anyone causing unwanted negative attention to their organization with their actions. Instead of members breaking into homes, they should continue to protest and sign up the public to help with their protests, and keep taking their grievance to Washington D.C. and hope for change.
Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now(ACORN) has come under a lot of scrutiny as of late. They have had a long history of helping homeowner in low to moderate income subdivision for close to 40yrs. They have been protesting and getting new laws on the books when it come to helping homeowners with anything from lower property taxes, better school, more affordable houses to lower to middle class homeowners, among other things. They have been a major fighting and educating source for the poor and minority groups across the country.
They have been getting a bad reputation lately, with some of their members accused of doing all kinds of unethical things including breaking the law. One of the most controversial actions of small number of ACORN members that have been accused of breaking the law to try to keep homeowners on the property after the eviction process has been completed. For instance, when a borrower goes into foreclosure, the property goes to sale, the eviction process has completed, and the property has been secured and locked; then ACORN members breaks back into the locked property, and assist the homeowner in some cases to move back into the property. The bank had taken back possession of the property, and the old mortgagee conveniently moves back in the property, and is assisted by none other than ACORN members. Some neighbors have been getting upset with the action of ACORN members and want a stop to it, because it is breaking the law. ACORN members argues, some see that homes are just sitting there vacant, for years in some cases, while prior homeowners are now homeless or living in shelters. This can be viewed from an ethical or legal stand point. What do you think. Should good families got homeless while there are thousands of empty properties available for move in. There is a flood of these homes already existing, and the banks aren’t collecting any income from these properties, yet they don’t want anyone who is not paying living there.
